The energy lately seems to be slightly cloudy with a chance of weird. Lots of people have been complaining about difficulty focusing, emotional rollercoaster rides, intense dreams, and sleep alternating between insomnia and torpor. I personally have been finding it difficult to read more than a few pages at a time without my mind wandering, and meditation has been a murky affair. Hang on tight, kids. If I had to venture a guess, I’d say 2020 is going to be quite a(n amazing, awesome, thrilling) ride.
Just yesterday, I was walking in to work when I passed a man on the sidewalk who looked neither homeless nor particularly well kempt. He’d been standing in silence, but addressed me directly as I passed.
“How do you know? How do you know? It’s so hard, man.”
I was a little confused as to what he thought I might know, especially at 7:30 in the morning. I turned to him (I’m still not sure why) and asked him what was hard.
“This! The 3D! How to do yo know which ones to keep and which ones to exterminate, you know?”
Now, before you chalk him up as a nutter, he was speaking quite coherently, his eyes were clear, and, while clearly confused about which ones to keep, he was the furthest thing from rambling. Living in San Francisco, I know a drug fueled psychosis when I see one, and this wasn’t it. He was asking me a legitimate question, and he thought I had the answer.
What happened next really surprised me. I opened my mouth and answered him.
“You keep them all, of course. They’re all beautiful.”
This gave him pause, and then he smiled and fist bumped me.
“Yeah, keep them. I like that… but then how do you help them all?”
“By being the best you that you can be. Model that shit, man.”
He just stared at me, smiling and nodding. I walked away and went to work.
If this exchange wasn’t like something out of a dream, I don’t know what is. Did I mention that he was holding a golf putter in his hand the entire time? Yeah, so he was holding a golf club in his hand the entire time.
You want evidence that the veil is thinning? Look around you, listen, pay attention. It’s happening. We’re living it right now.
As my teacher, Kalisara, told me when I relayed this story to her: “Merrily, merrily, we are in the dream until we wake up.”
